The Dakar leaves Argentina provisionally to cross the Andes mountain range via the Paso de Jama pass. To reach this point, the climb will start during the night. Once they have crossed the border, the crews will ascend to an altitude of 4,800 metres, i.e. the same height as Mont-Blanc, without crampons or ice-picks! In sporting terms, the arrival in Chile also heralds the entrance to the Atacama Desert and the first off-track racing of the rally. The start of the relatively short special stage will take place at 3,300 metres. At this point, the vehicles will have to handle stony terrain as the dunes approac

City will be without World Cup winning winger David Silva who is out with a knee problem. Striker Mario Balotelli will also miss the game with a knee injury.
The Citizens scaled the summit of the league table for a brief time on Tuesday after mauling Aston Villa 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Matio Balotelli and a goal from Joleon Lescott. Manager Roberto Mancini will be delighted with his side’s showing and will hope that they can continue in the same vein. However the game against Arsenal will be a tough challenge and Mancini knows this
Arsenal missed a chance to narrow the gap at the top of the table after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Wigan. Ben Watson's penalty gave Wigan the lead, but goals from Andrei Arshavin and Nicklas Bendtner had given Arsenal a 2-1 lead. Charles N’Zogbia was sent-off for the Latics, which gave the Gunners a distinct advantage. But an own goal from Sebastian Squillaci meant that the sides had to share spoils. Manager Arsene Wenger would have been disappointed with his side’s showing, but will focus on this game as a win here could help the side regain top spot.

The defending champions halted a run of six league games without a win when they beat Bolton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Florent Malouda. Boss Carlo Ancelotti would have been relieved with the win as it eases the pressure on his job. The return of Frank Lampard has also helped the Blues, who are currently placed 4th on the league table. Alex, Yuri Zhirkov and Yossi Benayoun remain sidelined, but Nicolas Anelka should be fit for this game after missing the last two with a knee issue.
Meanwhile Wolves sprung a nasty surprise on Liverpool by beating them 1-0 last week thanks to a goal from Stephen Ward. The effort was praiseworthy as Wolves were missing a number of players including Karl Henry, Jody Craddock, Kevin Doyle, Michael Mancienne and Steve Mouyokolo with injuries. Manager Mick McCarthy will be delighted with the win, but will hope for more consistency from his players as he seeks to guide them out of the drop zone.

Meanwhile things got bleaker for Liverpool when they lost 1-0 to Wolves thanks to a lone goal from Stephen Ward. The Reds have lacked consistency and this is a major concern for boss Roy Hodgson, whose job is under serious pressure. The return of Steven Gerrard from six weeks out with an injury did little to motivate Liverpool, who have now lost 8 of the 18 games played so far in this campaign.

Australia has been given drubbing by India and now England beating the kangaroos in every aspect of the game.
So will the Australian team rise like a phoenix or will touch the nadir with inept bowling and irresponsible batting shows that we have experienced by now all too often.
Having got an unassailable lead of 3-1 the team England is very eager to wrap up the series in style winning it by 4-1 and Australian cricket team will do its best not to let it happen and win the consolation prize and not become a laughing stock.
But the worst thing for the Aussies is the fact that the fall has come so fast and so sudden that they cannot find out or analyse the reason for such a big shift in performance.

The Lions had two winnable games that went into the loss column. When you think about it, the Lions are two plays removed from being 2-0.
In Chicago, the defense gave up huge chunks of real estate, but held the 2-0 Bears to only 19 points.
Any reasonable adult could be led to the conclusion that if your defense can hold a team to 19 points, your weapon laden offense should be able to win.
Not when you lose your starting QB. Not when the offensive play calling goes into a Jim Colletto shell. Not when you can manage only 168 net yards (24 rushing).
The home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) was a contrast. Here, the offense scored 32 points, and piled up yards almost at will.
Again, any rational, sober individual could make the reasonable assumption that 32 points is enough to win. Not against Michael Vick (who was sacked six times), DeSean Jackson, and LeSean McCoy ran roughshod through the porous Lions defensive secondary for 35 points.
Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is not happy with all of the missed assignments by the back seven, and rightly so. Chicago and Philadelphia proved that the Lions secondary is vulnerable to giving up big plays often.

While the Kansas City Chiefs are deserving AFC West champions, it's hard not to argue that the Oakland Raiders have been the dominant force this season within the division.
The Chiefs have little to play for in Sunday's finale at Arrowhead Stadium against the Raiders, who are bidding to finish 6-0 in division games.
Kansas City (10-5) has earned its first AFC West crown since 2003 after beating Tennessee 34-14 last Sunday. Matt Cassel threw three touchdown passes and two of them went to Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles, who also rushed for 77 yards on 13 carries.
How much action Cassel, Charles and Pro Bowl receiver Dwayne Bowe receive Sunday is up in the air. The Chiefs cannot secure a first-round bye, will finish as the No. 3 or No. 4 seed and will face Pittsburgh, Baltimore or the Jets in a wild-card matchup next week.
Kansas City also is bidding to finish 8-0 at home for the first time since 2003.
"I don't know what we're going to do," coach Todd Haley said. "We're going to do what we think gives us the best chance to win. That's where I'll leave it for now."
While the Chiefs are just 2-3 against the AFC West, Oakland (7-8) could become the first team to win every division game and miss the playoffs since the NFL went to divisions in 1967. The Raiders have not had a perfect AFC West mark since going 7-0 in 1976 - the year the franchise won its first Super Bowl.
Oakland is enjoying its best season since reaching the Super Bowl after the 2002 campaign, and has won three straight at Arrowhead Stadium. The Raiders, though, dropped all six non-division AFC games.
"It would be nice go in there and try to give them their first home loss and all that, sweep the division," defensive lineman Tommy Kelly said. "It's kind of hollow but, we achieved a goal but we didn't get the ultimate goal. So that's still kind of hard to swallow right there."
These are the best rushing teams in the NFL, with Kansas City averaging 167.5 yards per game and Oakland 152.3. Charles is second in the league with 1,380 yards - 56 behind Houston's Arian Foster - and is close to setting an NFL record.
Charles is the fourth running back in league history with at least 200 rushes to have a per-carry average of at least 6.0. He's at 6.39, which is the second-best mark behind Hall of Famer Jim Brown's 6.40 mark with Cleveland in 1963.
"Jamaal, he has developed," Haley said. "It's really an unbelievable development you've seen in him and you've got to give everybody credit."
The Raiders limited Charles to 53 yards on 10 carries and held Thomas Jones to 32 yards on 19 rushes in their 23-20 overtime victory Nov. 7. Oakland's Darren McFadden, 11th in the NFL with 1,157 yards rushing, carried 17 times for 89 yards.
The Chiefs have received numerous contributions on defense, most notably Tamba Hali's career-high 12 sacks and rookie safety Eric Berry's four interceptions. Kansas City is ranked 11th in total defense at 329.3 yards per game after finishing near the bottom of the league in 2009 in Haley's first season.
"They're all a bunch of guys who are developing each and every day," Haley said. "You can see that. The coaches have done a terrific job last year and this year of helping in that process and the players themselves have done a terrific job. It feels good as the head coach to see some of these guys grow up before your eyes and become players before your eyes."
The Raiders believe they are on a similar path, and will have to decide whether to bring back Tom Cable. The coach is in the final year of his contract, and Oakland holds an option for him to return for one season.
"It's a process to get there," Cable said. "This week is just the last step for this year, and that is to go out and win a game and finish the season 8-8, stop the losing record thing that has kind of been chasing this organization for a number of years as well as complete the sweep in the division. I think that would be a heck of a deal for our football team and launch us into the future and the next year."
The Raiders and the Chiefs have both seen how fates played out. The Raiders, improved from five wins last year to seven this season, were alive for a playoff berth until Kansas City ripped the Titans a new one.
Meanwhile the Chiefs, who finished last year with an outburst, went out and reassembled a coaching staff in similar format to the New England Patriots.
Most pundits will claim Sunday's game between the Raiders and Chiefs is meaningless, as both clubs have their respective futures settled. The Raiders are looking at another offseason without the playoffs, while the Chiefs are in, but it's anyone's guess if that will be a No. 3 or No. 4 seed.
But by any stretch of the imagination, this game does give the Raiders something to play for.
First and foremost, it is the chance to finish at .500. The last few seasons, dating back to 2002, very little has gone right in Oakland. Draft pick mistakes, blackouts, even the economy has dulled the league's perspective of the Raiders, leading the team to start putting the pieces to a team into place in 2007.
Darren McFadden, Michael Bush, Zach Miller and longer holdovers Asomugha, Robert Gallery and others started assembling a team to function with. Some coaches were brought in with the belief that they would hold the skills to fix this team. Dating back, some coaches were brought in, but quickly fell out of favor for one reason or another: Norv Turner after bringing in Kerry Collins and chasing Jerry Rice out, Art Shell imploded and Kiffin opened his mouth one too many times.
This is now Cable's team, with Hue Jackson getting vocal at times. This is a squad, being led by a veteran in Richard Seymour, rookies Rolando McClain and Lamarr Houston and has brought the Raiders to a 7-8 record.
After seven seasons of 11 or more losses, seven wins take care of two streaks the Raiders are glad to be rid of, but more importantly with seven wins, they cannot end this season with double-digit losses.
Both are nice statistics...what's more, it puts the club in position to finish at 8-8, a good mark to go into the next season with.
Likewise, the Raiders could still finish at second place, should the Chargers lose to the Broncos...by both clubs finishing at 8-8, the Raiders would have the tiebreaker. Also with a win Oakland would become the third team to finish 6-0 in their division...considering in the last seven seasons Kansas City, Denver and San Diego loved to play the Raiders.
Kansas City has made it known they plan to play their starters. This should make for a good game, however the coach for the Chiefs should realize something important.
Back in the 1990s the Houston Oilers were moving along nicely in the season. Warren Moon was chasing Dan Marino's record when Moon was injured in a junk game late in the season. Houston went to the playoffs and promptly hit the wall.
Does this fact worry Haley—that if the Raiders beat him once, a second game could spell the Chiefs starting Brodie Croyle for the playoff run?
Good luck to the Raiders...send the team out on a high note, and let the league know, the Raiders are no longer to be taken lightly.

That is what the scoreboard read in Cleveland last December when the Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Browns, all but eliminating their playoff chances.
Flash forward one year, the Steelers do not need to defeat the Browns to earn a playoff spot but need to earn a first round bye and at least one home game at Heinz Field.
It is particularly important that Pittsburgh earns the first round bye, given injuries to key players including Troy Polamalu and Aaron Smith on defense and Ben Roethlisberger on offense.
Polamalu, after playing at a MVP level at the tail end of the season, has missed two games in a row and could miss Sunday’s action.
Pittsburgh has been without Smith for much of the season and is anxiously awaiting a potential return in the playoffs, where he will greatly benefit their run defense and open up lanes for the pass rush.
Roethlisberger has been able to play through his injuries, but an extra week of healing for his broken nose and injured foot would be very helpful.
To achieve the bye, Pittsburgh will have to avoid another let down in Cleveland. Instead, they will look to regain their dominance over the Browns, in which they have won 19 of the last 22 meetings.

The Jacksonville Jaguars limp into Houston today without their quarterback David Garrard but they have something to play for. The Jaguars can clinch the AFC South with a win and an Indianapolis Colts loss. The Colts host the Tennessee Titans and both of these games are at 4:15 EST so there will be plenty of scoreboard watching if Jacksonville is winning or Indianapolis is losing. The Texans have something to play for as well as they will become the all-time NFL's worst pass defense if they allow another 400 yards passing. Ousted Buffalo Bills QB, Trent Edwards, will be slinging the pigskin for the Jaguars in this one and given the fact that Tim Tebow put up over 300 yards in the air last week against the Texans, Edwards might be looking for a career day himself.
NFL Picks Week 17: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans.
There are reports out of Houston that fans are rallying together before Sunday's game in order to convince Texans management to fire Gary Kubiak.
Yes, that's right. There's going to be a Fire Gary Kubiak Rally.
If Kubiak wants to change the mind of his fanbase, then definitely needs to pull off a win this weekend and spoil the playoff chances of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jags were tied in the AFC South last weekend, until they fell to the struggling Washington Redskins.
It's a must win situation for the Jaguars this weekend. And it's also an important game for Kubiak to win.
The Texans secondary will need to step up and learn to actually play defense. While Matt Schaub and Arian Foster need to take advantage of a fragile Jaguars defense.
They say Kubiak is a player's coach and his guys actually like him. Well, the best way for them to prove it is by coming together this weekend and winning at home.

The Arizona Cardinals will head out to San Francisco with the intent of ending the San Francisco 49ers season with yet another loss January 2nd. The
Arizona Cardinals defense looked like their Super Bowl version with plenty of hitting and aggressive play in their win over the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Day.
Arizona Cardinals Offense vs San Francisco 49ers Defense
John Skelton is the unlikely leader of this Arizona Cardinals offense. The Arizona Cardinals are attempting to finish strong and Skelton has shown potential under center as the thrid starting quarterback this season for the Cardinals. The rushing game for the Arizona Cardinals is still in need of work. They are averaging 86 yards per game on the ground and their pass offense numbers are not much better.
Mike Singletary is out as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and this game will be one of those games where a team is going through the motions. San Francisco is out of the NFL Playoffs and it is not the San Francisco 49ers defense's fault.
They are defending the run well by allowing 100 yards per game on the ground. Against the pass they have played well all season also. They are giving up 230 yards a game through the air. The Arizona Cardinals offense and the San Francisco 49ers defense are even and neither has the edge.
Arizona Cardinals Defense vs San Francisco 49ers Offense
The Arizona Cardinals defense has picked it up a notch to close the season and they have played with heart. The run defense is the Arizona Cardinals weakness and they have off set the weakness by stepping up their aggressive defensive style of their Super Bowl season. They are giving up 145 yards per game on the ground to opposing running backs and he Arizona Cardinals pass defense is yielding 228 yards per game though the air.
